Exercise: identifying resources

For this exercise I was asked to make a list of the equipment and resources I might need to use. From my previous course, I have accumulated the following:

  • Selection of pencils
  • Blending pencils
  • Selection of charcoal pencils
  • Ruler
  • Compass
  • Normal rubber
  • Coloured pencils
  • Pastel pencils
  • Oil paint
  • Oil pastels
  • Acrylic paints
  • Watercolours
  • Paint pens
  • Markers
  • Alcohol markers
  • Inks
  • Ink pens
  • Crayons
  • Metallic markers
  • Various paintbrushes
  • A manual paint sprayer
  • Various sketchbooks paper types for water colour, sketching, painting, oil etc.
  • Tissue papers and other assorted coloured papers, sugar papers etc.

What I probably need to get more of are larger sketchpads and paper and more assortments of pencils, different styles of rubbers and blenders. I have just ordered some of the assigned books second hand online and perhaps rulers for angles, depth and perspective. I also need to get more fixative spray and I am thinking about getting a portfolio holder to keep the drawings separate and better protected. For now I have been putting finished illustrations into the sketchpads to keep them safe.

I usually draw or paint at my dining room table which also extends out if I nthough I do have an easel I should use more and I have a standing desk for my computer for work that I can also use. All of this is in my relatively spacious dining room and can also be closed off from the living room when I need to leave a mess!
